ā€œHow weird can this look from the other side? Ha-ha-haā€ 😅 – thought.

Usually, Iā€™m in my own world, minding my own businessā€¦

ā€¦but at that moment, I couldnā€™t help but wonder for a second what might have come across the mind of the startled woman who passed by me.

Just as she was about to walk by, I started laughing out loud.

I could see her face suddenly shifting from calm to shocked and confused.

It whooshed through my mind how weird that could look from her sideā€¦ 😅

ā€¦a guy on the sidewalk in a high collar jacket and beanie hat starting to laugh out loud, seemingly for no reason.

But my wonder passed just as quickly as it cameā€¦

ā€¦and I got re-focused on the attention-grabbing voice in my ears, coming from the headphones hiding under my beanie.

Will Smith, the famous actor, was telling a funny story that had such a great marketing, business and life lesson in it.

When Will was young, his dad told him and his younger brother to build a BIG wall 🧱 outside of their shop.

Will described it likeā€¦ that wall could have been built by a few experienced adults in a couple of daysā€¦

ā€¦BUT for them, for two little kids, that task looked like an impossible one, a work that would never end.

For nearly a year, their dad relentlessly got them to work on the wall every day after school and even on weekends and holidaysā€¦

ā€¦whether they felt like it or were completely fed up with it.

One day, when they were really complaining 🤬 about how hard and endless that job was, their dad told themā€¦

ā€œSTOP worrying about the whole WALL. Your job is to lay ONE brick perfectly. Then the next one. And then the next one. Your only concern is ONE brick at a time.ā€

So day-by-day, brick-by-brick, the two kids kept building the seemingly infinite wall.

Until the day had come when they finally laid the last brick, and the ā€œimpossibleā€ wall was ready. 🧱

Then the boys stood on the sides of their dad, not sure 😐 about what was next.

But for sure, they didnā€™t expect thisā€¦

Their dad calmly surveyed the new wall. And all he said wasā€¦

ā€œDonā€™t you boys ever tell me thereā€™s something that you canā€™t do.ā€

Then he walked away.

In marketing, business, and life we all face our own ā€œinfinite wallsā€.

And when we focus on the wall, the HUGE goal ahead, the job will feel impossible.

But when you focus on only ONE brick, ONE step at a time, everything gets easy.

Thatā€™s how we can achieve ANYTHING. ONE step at a time. 👟🪜

AND thereā€™s something even GREATER in marketing becauseā€¦

ā€¦you donā€™t need to lay the bricks yourself for a long timeā€¦

ā€¦itā€™s possible to set up SYSTEMS like this one fastā€¦

ā€¦that lay bricks for you, and complete the actual work instead of you.

Something strange was going onā€¦ šŸ˜Æ

Our living room turned into the scene of an unusual event.

While I was growing up my parents rarely had friends over.

Even though my dad had told me and my brother upfront that some people would come over that eveningā€¦ šŸŒƒ

ā€¦I still felt a bit confused as I was standing just outside of the room, almost hiding behind the door frameā€¦

ā€¦and shyly peeking in šŸ‘€ at what was going on.

Would you like to know what I found? šŸ™ˆ

Just like thatā€¦

ā€¦the sound of my right hand slapping against my forehead broke my silenceā€¦ šŸ¤¦

ā€¦and my awkward laugh filled up the entire room. šŸ˜…

I wasnā€™t laughing because of the unconscious movement of my handā€¦

ā€¦but because of the realization that hit me a moment before.

I was using it more than I was proud to admit.

And it kept distorting my mind and reality.
