You know how some odd things stick with you for life? 🙊
Even though I was looking up at him with eyes wide open, and kept nodding in admirationā¦
ā¦for sure, I didnāt imagine how that ONE SECRET 🤫 would change my life forever.
Neither could I anticipate that moment and feeling would still be with me even 25 years laterā¦
ā¦nor that it would define me as an entrepreneur even today.
Itās a secret every entrepreneur should knowā¦
ā¦and more importantly, use it every single day.
A while agoā¦
On a sunny winter day 🧣, I was casually strolling around on the suburban roads of a UK town.
The cold breeze stroking my face was refreshingly awakening.
And it wasnāt the only thing that made my mental tiredness fade awayā¦
Through earphones, I was listening to the always energetic host of one of my favorite podcasts 🎙️, called Marketing Secrets.
Russell Brunson was telling an interesting story from his childhoodā¦
The BEST lesson he had learnt from his dad.
(Another tale for another time.)
His story made me think right awayā¦
What was the BEST thing I had learnt from MY dad? 🤔
It didnāt take long to recognize THAT ONE lesson that was outstanding from among many other ones.
Back, when I was still in elementary schoolā¦ (a good 25 years agoā¦)
We had a little paper booklet with a light blue cover.
Teachers wrote each grade into that, we had to take it home, and get one of our parents to sign it to confirm they saw our grades.
One day, I got an unusual, bad grade.
And I was quite worried 😟 about what my dad would say to it.
To my biggest surprise, this is what happenedā¦
I anxiously, with my head tilted a bit down, told my dad about the bad gradeā¦
ā¦and promised him Iād study more and would do better next time.
Then, I handed him the little booklet to sign.
But he was NOT mad at all.
He signed it quickly. 🖊️
And as he saw the worry in my eyes, before handing the booklet back to meā¦
ā¦my dad told me a SECRET 🤫 Iād NEVER forgetā¦
(One that every entrepreneur should know, and more importantly, use every single day.)
In a nutshell, this is what he told meā¦
āLearn for yourself. Not for me, not for the school, not for the teachers, not for the grades. For yourself.ā
While he was talking, I kept nodding in admiration, and with eyes wide open. 👀
(That secret has changed my life forever. And it defines me as an entrepreneur even today.)
It was his way of sayingā¦
Donāt learn because others tell you, or expect you to do so, or you want to avoid some sort of āpunishmentā.
The reason to learn is because the knowledge and skills you acquire serve and benefit you for life. 📈
Though we are not in school anymore, the SAME lesson is a CONSTANT TRUTH in marketing, business, and life.
🤓 Learn. Consciously. Every single day.
