Do you feel like there is never enough time in a day to complete everything? A lot of entrepreneurs who are alone in their business feel that way.
They have a lot of work to be done, and usually run out of time before they can get to the end of their to-do list.

I’m going to jump right into the solution, which is building an A-team in your business. Yes, I know it’s a kind of a cliché that you might have already heard many times.
BUT if you’re still an entrepreneur who is flying solo, this is the perfect time to start putting your own pro team together.
If you’ve never hired anybody I know it may feel uncomfortable at first, so let me share with you a quick and easy way to assemble your team.
These are tips and tricks I learnt over the past decade of building and managing various smaller and bigger teams.
The primary goal of starting to build a team is to get new people into your business who do some of your current work instead of you…
…so you can focus more on the business activities that produce more money than you pay to your team. This way you can get more time, the work gets done, and your business can grow. It makes sense, right?
The first question is who to hire first? If you don’t have an accountant, hire one, that’s just essential for every business. Apart from that, your first hire should be a Virtual Assistant. Why?
Because it’s easy to start working with one, doesn’t cost much to start with, and can take a lot of small, energy-draining, time-consuming tasks off your shoulder. So it can be a quick and easy win for you.
It’s also better to start with a part-time freelancer. There’s no point hiring and paying somebody full-time when they don’t have that amount of work to do yet.
You can even start with one virtual assistant for one hour a week, and step-by-step increase the amount of work they do for you. And over time, you can hire more people as well.
Also, working with freelancers has another huge benefit, you can scale up and down your team and the work hours as your business requires it.
Now, let’s go through 6 tips on how to hire freelancers successfully and avoid common mistakes and headaches.
Tip #1: Be Really Clear About Your Expectations.
What results you expect from them, how and when what you expect them to do, how, and when why you want to hire them and so on.
The more clearly you know your expectations about the job and the freelancer, the more likely you can avoid unexpected situations and disappointments.
Tip #2: Communicate Your Expectations Clearly To Them.
Knowing your expectations is one thing, communicating that to them clearly is another. Explain things as simple as possible, it helps to avoid misunderstandings.
Use simple videos and screenshots to illustrate the visual elements of the job to make sure things are clear. Have every important thing in written format or in videos.
It helps to make sure nothing is forgotten.
Tip #3: Only Hire Through Reliable Sources.
For example, on Upwork, which is one of the well-known and reliable freelance portals. It’s kind of like a middle man that provides you safety, information…
…and easy access to great freelancers you can work with.
Tip #4: Pre-Qualify Freelancers Before You Even Talk To Them.
Freelance portals usually show you the essential info of the freelancers so you can check out things like the tracked hours they worked via that portal.
It is positive when the freelancer already has a lot of work hours because that shows they are serious about freelancing. Check the reviews of what their previous clients say about them. Were they happy?
Make sure their profile shows similar work to what you’re planning to give them. It increases the chance that they’ll work faster and better.
Look at the quality of their profile. If it’s messy, there’s a good chance their work would be messy too. Look through their portfolio. Is that the level of quality you expect from them?
See if your budget and their fees are matching. And also, do a research on what other similar freelancers are charging.
It is important because freelancers who charge BELOW average, their work tends to be BELOW average as well.
Tip #5: Talk To The Best Candidates. The purpose of this call is to find out about important things like: How well do they communicate? How the two of you are resonating with each other?
How well do they understand the job and expectations? Ask them to tell you back with their own words what they understood. How good questions do they ask?
If they don’t ask any questions that’s NOT a good sign. Either they are not interested, or they assume things, or they are afraid to ask.
All those cases tend to negatively hit back, and you won’t get the results you want. So on this call you won’t be able to figure out how well they actually work. That’s why the next tip is…
Okay, tip #6, Hire Your Choice Of Freelancer For A SMALL Job FIRST.
This way, you can truly test them. Give them a small relevant job, see how they work, how quickly, how they communicate, and the results you get from them.
If they are not a good fit, test another freelancer. If you can’t decide yet, keep in mind there’s a learning curve for them. Test them again with another small job.
And if you’re happy with their work, congratulations! You are building your team.
Once you have your first virtual assistant and have given him or her the first task look around in your business for all the simple, repetitive tasks create written and/or video guides…
…and hand them over to your VA so they can check it as many times they need it without taking up your time. Expect some learning curve for every task.
Check on the work they do and adjust on the guides to clear things up if needed. When you’re happy with how they work on a task, step-by-step, give them more work.
This way you can easily free up more and more time for yourself that you can focus on profit-generating activities to grow your business.
